Improvised

Hélène CABOT. Diploma project. DSAAD Product Design. 2020

Design and improvisation are both linked to conception and realisation.

What are the modalities and the stakes of the existence of improvisation for design?

The project is anchored on user’s practices in the resolution of problems specific to their apprehension of everyday life. Looking at these behaviours is a way for the designer to see the gaps in the existing.

Following the observation of these solutions, I chose to focus the project on problems related to grip. Many situations in everyday life require the simultaneous use of both hands. However, there are very few solutions to help people with only one valid or available hand in their manipulations.

The final product is a device to be fixed to a work surface, which allows containers to be blocked when they are opened, mainly those that require rotation, by means of a simple and mechanical movement.
