While writing my essay, I came to the conclusion that ephemerality, when applied to spaces,
created sensitive, resilient and community-oriented places. Consequently, I conducted my study
in the Mermoz-Pinel district, where the inhabitants are confronted with the total, radical and
imminent rehabilitation of their living space. This area may seem austere at first glance, but it is in
fact a neighborhood where conviviality, diversity and mutual aid reign. Most of the buildings are
insalubrious and will be demolished. How can we prevent the inhabitants of Mermoz-Pinel, who
will be forced to move, from experiencing this change as a shock, an uprooting ? I created an
evolving public space through a system of trees, stakes and weaving of jute straps. Within Liens
Infinis
, the André Latarjet square is transformed into a vessel of conviviality, welcoming on board
the former inhabitants of Mermoz and the future owners and tenants of the area. It will
accompany them through the process.
