Disorientation in urban scale is the theme of my graduation project.
People cross urban space without even seeing it. We do not raise our heads to observe or to take the time. Being oriented is not just about knowing where you are going, but knowing how to get lost.
My project wants to develop itineraries with orientation clues without guiding. The walker attentive to his environment, look, questions, searches for keys to understanding the environment.
Alone or in a group, this urban walk requires time, and insight to find clues. The discovery of the course, the strolls offer moments of essential breaks to share with residents, traders, accomplices of these strolls.
Discovering neighbourhoods by crossing paths, being carried away by urban discoveries open new perspectives of urban walks.
Disorientation in urban space is due to the guidance in cities. The role of the designer, today, is allowing people being orientated by themselves. It means, his role, my role, is to set something which allows walking randomly in the street to discover new things. But how manage this to let them forget guidance and do not worry about letting them fend for themselves?
The new challenges are to let people decide what is good for them, and what they really want to do, let them go where they want.
