Squares are the place where crisis crystallizes! This is what I have found in a study conducted in public squares. However, public squares are resisting!
This is why I have tried to make the Place Jacques Elmaleh and the Place du Cardinal Jean Villot (respectively a car park and a playground with limited access) more humane and lively, while highlighting their complementary forms and uses. But as the health crisis of COVID-19 takes hold, new issues are emerging: what role can squares play in such a context? What are we looking for, and how can they become a gathering place at a time of social distancing? Finally, what role can designers play in the Place de la Crise?
