Contemporary narcissism is very ambivalent. It’s at the same time funny and spine-chilling, odd and natural. What if it wasn’t, actually, self-evident ?
There is something inherently absurd in the self-images. Nobody is truly in tune with them, because their meaning slips from the mind. This trait just needs to be a little emphasized for us to realize it, with a bit of (self-)derision and exaggeration.
These examinations led to two satirical scenarios.
On the one hand, integration of the self to the image. How does the body become an artwork in place of actual artworks ? Over time, shots come one after another, accelerate, become more precise. In a whirl of exploded gazes, the self invades the image, until it get lost in it.
On the other hand, the lack of meaning that can be found in some self-staging practices. The TRUCKS team met Da$ha, a web icon and the inventor of the ”self-plication”, which is a kind of hands-free kit that allows her to hold the pose while having her own two hands on the phone. An ”everything for the image” that is on the verge of being ridiculous.
